Events 2013

San Antonio offers much in the way of leisure and recreation for our many visitors. San Antonio is famous for its events such as Fiesta and San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, which is one of the largest in the country. The city is also home to NBA champions, San Antonio Spurs. Throughout the year also check out Sea World and Fiesta Texas events and concerts too.

Feb 7-24. San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo at the AT&T Center. Voted PRCA’s Large Indoor Rodeo of the Year for the past 5 years, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo has fun for the entire family. From the traditional rodeo events and livestock show, to a star-studded concert lineup, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo also includes a carnival, food, family fair, marketplace with over 650 vendors, and a petting zoo. Feb 9. Mardi Gras River Parade at the San Antonio Riverwalk. 11am-7pm, La Villita and The Arneson River Theatre. A procession of decorated river barges will transform the San Antonio River Walk into a floating Bourbon Street. Krewes of costumed revelers & live entertainment will celebrate Mardi Gras San Antonio Style! Enjoy live music on Arneson Stage from 11am to 7pm, and a festival of food, arts & crafts, activities and more at La Villita. Parade will take place 3pm-5pm. Visit the San Antonio Riverwalk

Feb. 16. Annual Asian Festival in Hemisfair Park at the Institute of Texas Cultures from 10:00am-5:00pm. Year of the Snake! The Asian Festival at the Institute of Texan Cultures in downtown San Antonio showcases Asian cultures and traditions from the Pacific Rim. The family friendly event includes music, food, fashion, crafts, cultural performances, martial arts demonstrations, botanicals and from more than a dozen Far Eastern countries – such as Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, Pakistani, Filipino, and Polynesian. Adult ticket prices are $10 at the gate, $8 advance at all HEB stores. Children (3-11) $5, under 3 years get in free. Mar 8. Family Flashlight Night at the San Antonio Botanical Garden at 6:00pm - 8:30pm. Families are invited to bring their flashlights and explore the San Antonio Botanical Garden at night. Visit www.sabot.org for event and activity information.

Mar 9. Luminaria Art Night in San Antonio in Hemisfair Park from 6pm- midnight. The largest single-day arts event in South Texas, attracting over 310,000 attendees in 2011. Luminaria includes the collaboration of over 100 artists and non-profit arts organizations, spotlighting six artistic disciplines: music, dance, media arts (film), literary arts, theater and visual arts from local, national and international artists. Mar 16-17. Murphy's St. Patrick's Day River Parade & Festival at the San Antonio Riverwalk from 11:00am-6:00pm. A family-friendly day of music, food and fun! Floats release 110 pounds of environmentally friendly green dye into the San Antonio River. The event transforms the 2.5 mile river into a miniature Emerald Isle where a proclamation is read, temporarily re-naming the river "The River Shannon". Mar 30. Festival Of India at La Villita from 11:00am to 5:00pm. India Association of San Antonio presents "Festival of India". San Antonio Highland Games & Celtic Music Festival This 13th annual festival will be the host to a myriad of activities including traditional Scottish heavy athletics, Celtic dance and musicperformances, a solo bagpiping competition, geneology information in the Clan Village,children´s activities in the Kid´s Glen,Living History activities and seminars, parade of Scottish dogs, and sheep herding trials. Apr 18-28. FIESTA at various San Antonio locations. Fiesta really is one of America’s truly great festivals. It began as a way to honor the memory of the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. That commemoration still takes place. Jun 15-17. Boerne Berges Fest in historic Boerne, Texas. Time: Friday 5-12, Sat 10 - 12am, Sunday 10 -8pm. Boerne Berges Fest is a family oriented German heritage festival. The festival is hosted yearly on Father’s Day weekend. Music from one of Texas’ finest German bands, the Boerne Village Band, playing traditional German folk tunes. Saturday morning is the Berges Fest parade traveling down Main Street. After the parade head over to the main plaza where all of the activities will take place. The events begin with the washer pitching tournament, egg toss, dachshund races, and a watermelon eating contest. Also enjoy a carnival with rides for kids of all ages.

Sept 7. Visit to the Past at the Alamo at Alamo, San Antonio, Texas. Fun for the whole family! Living historians dress in 1830s costume to educate the public on daily life in the 1830s and facts about the Battle of the Alamo. Historic skills demonstrations and exhibits that are regularly presented include, black powder fire arms, campfire cooking, butter churning. flint knapping, surveying, apothecary, spinning, and more! 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Oct 26. Visit to the Past at the Alamo at Alamo, San Antonio, Texas. is presented in cooperation with Founder's Day. These “Visits” include our living historians wearing 1830s period clothing and showcases exhibits and demonstrations featuring period firearms, sewing, weaving, medicine, surveying, money, leatherwork, travel kits, and more! Our demonstration and exhibit tables are setup in Alamo Plaza, directly in front of the Alamo shrine. Nov 2-3. Dia De Los Muertos at Market Place (Mercado) San Antonio, Texas. A Day of the Dead Celebration with a dance-and-drum procession. 12- 6pm

Nov 29. FORD Holiday River parade at San Antonio River walk. The Friday after Thanksgiving, the lights are switched on and approximately 122,000 will twinkle throughout the San Antonio River Walk area. 1st. three weekends FORD Fiesta de las Luminarias at San Antonio River walk. 6,000 Luminarias, warmly glowing candles in sand filled bags line the walkways to symbolize the 'lighting of the way' for the Holy Family.
